Our Busy Weekend

First of all, I did not take one single picture this weekend.  I am getting so bad at taking the camera around.  I need to get a new small one that I can just stick in my purse (and not let the kids get a hold of) so that I am always prepared.

Friday I was so excited that our Saturday was going to be an easy one.  It seems like every weekend we pack them full and it was nice to know we could do what ever we wanted or needed to as a family. Reese was actually sick all day Friday and Saturday with a mild fever but she was such a trooper.  We got several things marked off our to-do list Saturday morning and then we ran down to the GT bookstore to buy a birthday present for Lance’s nephew who will be TEN tomorrow!!  After naps we spent the evening in the pool.

Sunday morning we went to church as usual.  Sam’s teacher came to find me and said he had been crying a lot and they couldn’t calm him down.  A little bit later I went to check on him and he was fine so I left him in his class.  When I picked him up he felt warm so I figured he got what Reese had.  We stopped on our way to visit Lance’s family and bought some Motrin.  We spent the afternoon with family and Sam seemed to do well but towards the end he was just cranky, didn’t want to eat, and was getting warmer and warmer.  When we finally got home he had a fever of 104 so I immediately stuck him in the cold tub (which he hated) and gave him more medicine.  Through out the night his fever didn’t get below 102 and we were a little nervous.  We decided that Lance would stay home with Sam on Monday while Reese and I went out to my parents house.

My parents had a cookout with all of our family and some of Tommy’s family to celebrate Memorial Day and Tommy’s birthday.  Reese and I had a lot of fun while Lance was getting beat down by Sam and his constant whining.  Ha!

When Reese and I got home, I gave Sam a bath and put him to bed a little early because I had to leave for my first tennis lesson (since I was 15 years old).  It was so much fun to be on the courts and doing something for myself, by myself.  And not in a selfish way.

Well, I guess we couldn’t let one month go by this year with out getting sick so the kids snuck it in the last few days of the month.  Oh how I hope we can all stay well this summer!!  Sam seems to have broken his fever today and has been playing, having fun, and picking on his sister. I guess when he is hitting, biting, and pulling Reese’s hair I know he is feeling better…except he doesn’t seem to want to nap…

Notice a Difference?

5-27-11 048

We played around with Reese’s hair tonight and decided to straighten it…as much as we could.  I just used the blow dryer.

5-27-11 032

5-27-11 050

And I will not do that again ANY time soon.  1) It is a lot of work.  2) She is just not the same little girl with out her curls.

However, she did love that she had “Rapunzel” hair.

Art Day

Each morning Reese asks what we are going to do for the day.  We are only two weeks in to the summer break and she is already bored.  She is enjoying the gym and has enjoyed the things we have done each day.  However, I think she is not being able to express herself.  She is just going along with what I am doing.  She has been acting up some and just out right disobeying.  After trying to figure out what was going on with her and what I could do to fix it, I realized we were out of all of the plain white paper and construction paper.  So today we made a trip to Target to stock back up on art supplies.  Today was officially an “Art Day”.  Reese was thrilled!  I even offered to take her to the concert on the square and to pick up Chick-fil-A for lunch and she said no.  She was too excited to have more art supplies.  Not only did I pick up things for Reese, I decided to buy some finger paint for Sam.  I thought this would be a great idea and that he would love it.

5-26-11 003

Well, things don’t always go how you think they will.  He made this mess in about 2.0 seconds and then was done.  So much for this entertaining him for a while so I could clean up the kitchen (I can not empty the dishwasher with him around because he always climbs in it).

5-26-11 004

I didn’t even get to take any pictures of Reese working because he was D-O-N-E!  I had to clean him up and get him down.  Then he was mad that I took him down and wanted to get back in his chair to color with crayons.

I think Reese really enjoyed her art day.  If you are thinking about getting Reese something for her birthday, a pack of computer paper or a paper roll will be perfect for her!

First Pool Day

Today we had our first pool day of the summer. It was a perfect day for the pool! The water in the baby pool was cold but it was nice in the big pool so we spent a lot of time in there. It took Reese a long time to get comfortable in the pool. She actually was never totally comfortable but I know she will get there soon enough. Sam on the other hand was thrilled. He wanted to walk around in the baby pool with the water mid way up his chest. In the big pool he jumped (more like fell in) and squealed over and over. It was so fun to see him enjoy it. I am definitely going to have to keep a close eye on him this summer. What a blast!

Sam’s First Haircut

Sam got his first haircut today at Pigtails & Crewcuts.  We grabbed a few pictures before starting.

5-21-11 003

What a cute place!! They had all kind of chairs for the kids to sit in.

5-21-11 004

The hair dresser started to put Sam in the fire truck but the airplane was available so we quickly asked if we could sit in that instead.  He loves airplanes!

5-21-11 013

He was excited to sit in the airplane and to get a sucker but he was not happy once the cape was put on him.

5-21-11 017

He eventually calmed down and did a great job getting his hair cut.

5-21-11 018

Despicable Me was playing on the TV so he would check that out occasionally.

5-21-11 020

When the hair stylist asked what we wanted I told her that we loved the curls and the shaggy look and wanted to keep that while shaping it up a bit.  His hair was getting a tad too long.

5-21-11 024

She did a great job doing what we asked.  Everybody said that he would look grown up once he got his hair cut but I don’t think he looks older. I think he looks a little younger but still just as cute and sweet!

5-21-11 026

Pigtails & Crewcuts also paints nails so Reese got her fingernails and toenails painted.  She was thrilled!

5-21-11 010

And to share a funny picture…We had a birthday party to attend this afternoon.  Sam loved the cupcakes.  This picture does not even show how messy it got!!

What Do You Do...

...when you need some private time?
Me: I hang out in the bathroom longer than necessary.

What do your kids do when you are trying to have some private time?
Me: Harass me even more.

We went to the zoo today. It was so cold but such a beautiful day. We had a fun time with our neighbors, Jenny, Emma, and baby Danny.

Soccer Season

Saturday was Reese’s final day of soccer.  I don’t know if I would call the season a success but I think we will definitely try it again.

photo

I know she loves ballet way more than soccer.

photo2

She did well with soccer once she was actually doing what she was supposed to.

photo3

She was just stubborn and would watch the bigger kids play instead of doing what she was asked to do.

photo4

She was thrilled about getting a medal once the last practice was over.  I am glad we tried soccer.  I really think Reese will enjoy it…eventually.

Last Day of School

Today was Reese’s last day of three year old preschool.  I can’t believe that the year is already over.  It went by so fast!!

She has grown, changed, and learned so much in the last nine months.  This was the first day of school…

From the beginning until now arts and crafts has been Reese’s favorite thing to do.

Learning to write her letters was probably Reese’s greatest accomplishment this year.  It is amazing to even see the difference of these letters from a few months ago to the way she is writing them now.  She writes her name perfectly now too.

Here are Reese’s pictures from today.  I think she is so precious and beautiful!!

Sam wanted his picture made too so we couldn’t leave him out.  He is pretty stinking cute too if I must say!!

After school today we kicked off the summer with a celebration lunch at Chick-fil-A.  I am excited to see what this summer holds for us.

And just for a comparison:

Our Weekend

I know it is the middle of the week but I wanted to include how our weekend went so I didn’t forget how sweet it was.

Saturday we started out with soccer and Reese was not too interested in participating.  I know she is only three but it is so frustrating when she just completely ignores what she is supposed to be doing.  It is totally to blame on the fact that she didn’t go to bed until 10:00 the night before and never sleeps in. After soccer the kids and I went home while Lance ran some errands.  Once he was home we all went to lunch at Chick-fil-A and then put the kids down for a nap when we got home.  While the kids were napping Lance straightened up the house and I ran to the grocery store to prepare for some friends to come over.  When we told Reese that Maddie and Joci were coming over she started jumping around and squealing.  You would have thought we told her we were going to Disney World.  We cooked out, played outside, kids played in and out of the pool, drove the Jeep around, played Corn Hole, and enjoyed spending time together.  Sam even went on his first date…

5-11-2011 001

Reese and Lance had been scheming about Mother’s day for a few days.  She would always whisper to him and she did a great job keeping secrets. Some how Reese remembered all the balloons Lance put out for my 30th birthday and she wanted to do it again.  So Lance bought some balloons.  Saturday night she told me that I didn’t have to wake her up in the morning because Daddy was going to wake her up.  Sunday morning around 7:15 I heard her run in to our room, over to Lance’s side, and say, “Daddy you didn’t even have to wake me up.  I did it all on my own. Can we go downstairs now?”  So I pretended to still be asleep and they went downstairs to work on their plan.  Lance blew up some balloons and Reese “spreaded them out”. Reese was so excited and couldn’t wait for me to come downstairs to see the balloons.  (I think this might be a new family thing we have to do for each birthday.) The kids gave me a sweet necklace from The Vintage Pearl with their names on it.  I love it!!  The rest of the day was spent at church, relaxing, napping, and enjoying my sweet little monkeys that call me “Mama” or “Mommy”.

Average

Sam is average! Ha!  That is what the doctor said about his size.

I took Sam in for his 18 month check up today.  He weighs 25 lbs, 13 oz (50%), is 32” tall (42%), and his head circumference is 18.75” (46%).

We are happy with the way he is growing and developing.  He adds new words each day and is like a little parrot.  He tries to say almost everything we ask him to say.  Last Friday when we were at Relay we asked him to say Granddaddy (Reese just called him Dat for a long time) and he said “Ga-da”.  It was so cute and such a great try.  I will have to make a list of all of his words.

He definitely doesn’t talk as much as Reese did at this age but the doctor and I laughed that he also has a three month handicap due to all of the ear infections.  He seems to be catching up pretty quickly though.  When Reese isn’t around he just chatters and chatters.  I think he is trying to get in his turn to talk while it is quiet.  Seriously, that girl can talk!

I can’t believe that Sam is already 18 months old.  Time seems to be flying by.

Last Week of School

This is Reese’s last week of three year old preschool.  I can’t believe the school year has gone by so fast!! We have been so blessed by the teachers she has had this year.  She has learned and grown so much.

Today they had their end of the year show.  It was called “Animals, Animals”. While we waited for the show Sam was being a little stinker.  He was up and down in the chair, playing with the video camera, yelling “No!” at us, and then found a pen and drew all over his right leg.  At that point I was completely ok with what ever he was doing as long as he was quiet.

5-9-11 004

As soon as the kids started walking in, Sam was excited and stood in the chair next to me and watched…and behaved!

5-9-11 007

Reese found us almost immediately and was so excited to see us.

5-9-11 013

She sang her little heart out and did the motions to every song.  We were so proud of her.

5-9-11 019

I just love the little animal faces!

5-9-11 030

After their show was over it was party time back in their classroom.  Sam was so excited to finally see Reese.  He just loves his big sister!!

5-9-11 045

This picture just cracks me up! It looks like Sam is picking Reese’s nose and that she is ok with it.

5-9-11 047

Reese loves to have us in her classroom sharing in these fun times.

5-9-11 051

5-9-11 054

The three cuties from two year old and three year old class.  I know Reese would be thrilled if they were all in class together again next year.

5-9-11 053

Snack time!

5-9-11 055

Reese gave her teachers each their presents and then got her picture made with them.  This is Mrs. Sandy.  She is the perfect preschool teacher.  She is loud, full of energy, and fun!!  Reese cares a lot about what Mrs. Sandy thinks.  I have been known to say “What would Mrs. Sandy think of the way you are acting?” when Reese is not behaving well.

5-9-11 057

Mrs. Robyn is the assistant teacher and she is perfect too.  She is loving, full of hugs, and gives so much attention…which is perfect for Reese because she needs a lot of attention.  Mrs. Robyn works out in the parking lot during car pool line and often gives me an update of how Reese’s day was.

5-9-11 058

Mrs. Sandy gave all of the kids (more so for the parents) a photo album full of pictures from the whole year.  When she said she had these it made me cry because I just loved that she thought about the parents and the fact that for 9 hours a week our kids are doing fun and exciting things with out us.

5-9-11 059

My favorite picture from the album is the one with Reese on the police motorcycle.  She is actually looking at the camera AND smiling.

5-9-11 060

I am glad we were able to share this day with Reese and her class!
