Reese-ism

Recently we were doing bedtime prayers with the kids and Reese said, “Thank you, God, for worshipping our bodies.” I almost choked but I let it go. I thought maybe I misunderstood her and I didn’t want to make a big deal about her prayers. However, the next night she said the same thing. After prayer time I asked her why she said that and she said that it is something that Lance and I say and she wanted to pray like us. I promised her that I had never, ever prayed anything like that and we let it go. When it happened the next night I stopped her right in the middle of her prayer because I didn’t want her to continue saying that every night. I had to get to the bottom of it. After many questions and answers, Lance and I finally realized where it was coming from. Usually the kids say the blessing before meals but occasionally one of us will say it and sometimes we will say something to the effect of “thanks for this food…help it to nourish our bodies…etc”. She was trying to say that but it was coming out as “worshipping our bodies”. We cleared that up and have been free from that prayer ever since. It still makes me giggle to think about it.

Have It Her Way

Reese does things on her own time table. We can’t convince her to do anything unless it is her idea first. Yesterday we were at a festival in our little downtown area and Reese looked up at me out of nowhere and said, “I want to get my ears pierced.” I was shocked. I asked, “Today? Like right now?”. She answered yes! We have asked her several times over the last few years if she wanted her ears pierced and she has said no adamantly. We stayed at the festival for several hours because it was such a nice day. After we left we met some neighbors for dinner and Reese told them that she was getting her ears pierced. I still wasn’t sold on doing it right then but eventually Lance said yes and we figured we might as well do it while it was still her idea. We left dinner around 7:00 and headed straight for the mall. We brought our little neighbor along with us to watch. Reese was pretty nervous but very brave!

She picked out some blue gem earrings. The guy got everything ready and it was time to get her ears pierced. I recorded her getting the first ear done. Once it made the loud click, she jumped a little, and then the tears started. She was much less dramatic than I thought she would be. This picture below is of her getting the second ear done.

After they were done she looked in the mirror to see how she looked. She was trying so hard to smile through the tears. The picture below just breaks my heart. She was so happy about her ears but so sad about the pain.

Once we were done she was very happy and pranced around the mall. She couldn’t wait to show everyone her ears. She looks like such a big girl with her ears pierced. Lance and I were so proud of how well she did. Sam and Emma weren’t sure what to think but they were proud of her too.

She looks soooo cute!!

We've got a tooth!

After several rough days with Hayes, I finally see and feel a little speck of a tooth. It is his bottom left one. He, so far, has had a much better day today. Hopefully the night time will go just as well.

"I can't believe..."

We had a great day today. Everyone slept in until after 8:00...Reese didn't get up until after 8:30. I think she is catching up on all the sleep she has missed since school started. During the school week, Lance usually wakes her up in the morning and she can be such a stinker. He calls her "Doc McGrumpins" which is just a play on a Disney show that the kids love, Doc McStuffins. However, today she was so sweet and thoughtful and caring. It was just a pleasure to spend the whole day with her. After dinner we all had some frozen yogurt. While we were eating it Reese said, "I can't believe how sweet I have been all day!" I died laughing. She cracks me up.

Sweet Spring Break

We have started spring break around here. We have no big plans but some fun things to do. The kids all welcomed in spring break by sleeping in until after eight! It was heaven! A great way to start the week.

Growing Up

Recently Lance and I had discussed how much Sam seems to have grown up since turning three. On a day to day basis it is hard to see but when I got his school pictures last week it was confirmed. I compared his school picture from the fall with this spring picture. Look at how much older my sweet baby boy looks in just a few short months.

Celebrating Easter

We went to church Saturday night. They had two services Saturday night and two Sunday morning. It was a great service and great music. It was so nice to wake up Sunday morning and not have to rush the kids through checking out their baskets.

4-1-13 003

Reese woke up around 7:15 and came in to our room. Once she is awake everyone else is too.

4-1-13 004

So the four of us went downstairs to check out their baskets. On Saturday night Reese said she knew that either Lance or I was the Easter bunny. We never confirmed or denied her suspicions. Winking smile

4-1-13 010

Hayes slept through all of this so we didn’t get any picture of him with his basket. By the time he was awake, Sam had empty Hayes’ basket.

4-1-13 014

Reese was very excited about her goodies. She got a new Ivy and Bean book and some Lego Friends. She has been asking for both!

4-1-13 016

Reese and Lance immediately got to work on the Lego's. Lance might have been just as excited as Reese for the Lego’s.

4-1-13 018

Reese put it all together herself. Lance just supervised and helped out with the directions.

4-1-13 020

We headed over to my parents house for lunch with tons of family. All of the kids were very entertained all day.

4-1-13 024

After lunch the kids had an egg hunt. My mom bought tons and tons of eggs. Once the eggs were hidden it started to rain. That didn’t slow anyone down though. The kids had a blast!

4-1-13 048

See how wet Sam’s hair is…

4-1-13 076

Once everyone had headed home, my mom had some special gifts for the kids. That got them still enough for me to snap a picture of the three of them together.

4-1-13 084

We had a great Easter with family.

Call Me Maybe

EVERY morning when Lance takes Reese to school they listen to “Call Me Maybe”. I think Lance is totally over it but Reese still loves it. And because Reese loves it, Sam loves it too.

Here they are performing for me the other day.

Five Months

Our sweet little Hayes is five months old today.

4-1-13 098

At five months old:

*We are just attempting to sit up. He is doing well but just for a second or so. Sitting in his chair, he was able to sit up longer because he would bounce around the sides and sit right back up. Kind of like a weeble wobble.

*His hands are constantly in his mouth. No teeth yet though. You can tell when his mouth is really bothering him because he will put both hands in his mouth at the same time. I had to pull his hands out of his mouth several times while trying to take these pictures.

4-1-13 104

*He is still super smiley. (see previous post)

*He seems to know his name now. When I was taking these pictures and he would look away, I would call his name and he would look towards me.

4-1-13 106

*He has tried rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, green beans, and carrots. He has tolerated all of them but hasn’t just loved any of them. He made funny faces with the green beans and seems to like the carrots a little more. When I sit him in his high chair he knows it is time to eat. If I sit him in there to do something really quick and I don’t feed him, he starts kicking his feet and making noise.

4-1-13 108

*Still no schedule but he nurses every three hours. I am thinking about trying to start a schedule myself. I might start waking him up at the same time every morning and see if that helps us out any.

*Some nights he wakes up every four hours to eat. Last night he went about seven hours. Maybe it will be a new trend! I am trying to enjoy those quiet times with him.

4-1-13 109

*He is still in 6-9 month clothes and size three diapers. As I am going through all of Reese’s old clothes to sell, I am preparing myself to go through the boy clothes that Hayes has outgrown too. Ugh!

*He has been trying to put his pacifier in his mouth himself lately.

4-1-13 114

*Sam and Reese still continue to entertain him and I can only see that continuing. Sometimes Sam can be a little rough and I have to remind him to be gentle.

4-1-13 115

And this picture just cracks me up. Sam wanted their picture together sitting up and as I was snapping the picture Hayes began to fall over. It was a very slow and controlled fall.

4-1-13 116

Giggling Baby

Sam has become a pro at getting Hayes to laugh. He thinks it is so cute to hear Hayes giggle at silly things he does. He will do them over and over just to hear it more. The other night I was telling Lance about Sam pretending like he was sneezing and Hayes getting the biggest kick out of it. I honestly didn’t even think Hayes would laugh when I did it but he laughed and laughed. I finally recorded him doing it and you can tell that Lance and I were getting the biggest kick out of it too.
