Anniversary Celebration

Last Sunday was our seventh anniversary so we decided to take a little get-away. Over this past weekend Lance and I went to Savannah. It was a nice little vacation but not too many pictures were taken.

We drove down Friday morning and arrived around lunch time. We checked in to our hotel and then headed out for a bite to eat. We stayed at the Hyatt on River Street. (If we had to choose all over again, I don’t think we would stay there. Our room overlooked River Street and the river…it was loud all night. We didn’t sleep well with all the noise. After touring around the city, I think I would choose to stay in a cute little bed and breakfast type of place. There were tons of those.) After lunch we walked down River Street and checked everything out. About the time we got to the end of the street it started thundering so we headed back to the hotel. The second we walked in to our room it started hailing so we were happy for some down time in the safety of our room. After the storm passed we walked a few blocks away to just to see what was around, eat some ice cream at Leopold’s, and then headed back to River Street for dinner.

During our walk around we found a little breakfast place we wanted to eat at so Saturday morning we headed out to eat at Goose Feathers. After breakfast we did a trolley tour of the city. I have been to Savannah several times growing up because my Dad’s family is from there. However, I have never done the tourist stuff. We decided to get on and off the trolley and check out a few of the old houses. We visited the Juliette Gordon Low house (founder of Girl Scouts) and then the Owen-Thomas house (I think that was the name).

No pictures were allowed inside the houses so we only have pictures from the outside. The houses were so different from each other.

I actually don’t remember this house looking so run down from the outside when we were walking through the garden. Funny how different this picture makes it look. I liked the JGL house much more!

After the trolley tour we decided to forego the museum tickets we had and walked around a bit. We then headed back to our room to take a little nap. That evening we ate dinner at The Olde Pink House. It was, by far, our best meal of the whole weekend. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was nice, and the service was wonderful. I wish we had taken our camera so that we could have had our picture taken together. We did not get one single picture of us together the whole time.

Sunday morning we woke up to head home. We had a nice and relaxing weekend and the kids had a blast with Gigi, Granddaddy, and Aunt Becky. I don’t even think they noticed we were gone.

Puppy Sam

As much as Reese dislikes dogs, Sam likes them. When he sees pictures of dogs he says he wants to bring them home. When he sees dogs in person he asks to pet them. When we go to the park we have to go by the dog park to see the dogs running around. And now one of his favorite games to play at home is Puppy Sam. He crawls around with his tongue hanging out and will beg at your feet. He has to be the cutest dog I have ever seen. And probably the only one our house will ever have!

Beautiful Day

What a beautiful day it was today! After naps we headed to the tennis courts in the neighborhood to ride bikes/scooters/battery-operated-toy. When we got there and some people had their dogs playing on the courts so we just rode around in the parking lot.

After playing in the parking lot we played on the playground for a little bit and then finally the dogs were gone so we took over the tennis courts. On the tennis court the kids wanted to throw tennis balls and run more than ride their toys. We also did a little ballet with Reese.

After playing outside we came home and the kids painted in the garage.

They both really enjoyed that time. They painted for about 30 minutes.

Is it sad to say that I am loving this mild winter? Being outside is the best when it is so beautiful!

A Day in the Life of..

Reese had the day off of school today. It was nice to just take it easy getting up this morning. We were able to sit at the table and eat breakfast instead of grabbing it as we were running out of the door. The last two days both kids have woken up early and said they were hungry. This morning we sat to eat at the table and the sun was right in Sam’s eyes. It was so funny to see him try to duck and get out of the sunlight. I eventually figured out that if I opened the door to the bathroom it blocked the sun. He was then able to enjoy his breakfast.

After breakfast we got ready for a playdate. Before we were leaving the kids were playing and grabbed some spoons to try to hang from their noses.

The kids had a blast playing with their friends this morning.  They played great together and I know they had a lot of fun.

Tonight after dinner Lance had a project to take care of. This morning I took a shower and the water would not warm up. I usually take a HOT shower so it was miserable. Lance, being the smarty that he his, figured out how to fix the water heater. I will be so grateful tomorrow…and so will the kids.

Valentines~A Few Days Late

We don’t usually make a huge deal out of Valentine’s Day around here. This year I wasn’t even sure if Lance was going to be home before the kids went to bed but he made it home for dinner! Before dinner the kids wanted to make some cupcakes so that is what we did. They love watching food in the oven.

Lance stopped and bought us Chick-fil-A for dinner so we decided to have a candlelit picnic in the family room. Any time I don’t have to cook or wash dishes is a huge bonus!

After dinner was bath time. I had seen a cute pin on Pinterest where the kids played with glow sticks in the bathtub. I was not sure what the kids would think but they LOVED it! Sam actually decided to bypass reading books before bed so he could play a little longer.

For their gift, we gave them the movie “Lady and the Tramp” and some M&M’s. Tonight we will be watching the movie and snacking on the M&M’s in our popcorn.

Catch Air

We have had a busy weekend! Saturday morning I had a tennis match and it was soooo cold! It was 36 degrees with 20-40 mph winds. Miserable! After that we went to Moe's for lunch and then Lance went out to buy a car while I took the kids home for a nap. His car has been so unreliable the past few years we had to finally break down and get him a new one. Hopefully we are set in the car department for the next ten years or so!! That evening we had some old friends over. They arrived around 7:00 and then I put the kids to bed shortly after that. It was so nice to have adult conversations for a little while. This morning the kids woke up a little earlier than normal so we went to the early service at church. After church, the kids and I met some friends at Catch Air while Lance went to visit with other friends. We had a blast at Catch Air even though it was crazy and busy. After playing we grabbed some lunch together and then it was back home for naps. The kids took great naps! It has been a lazy evening since then and I am not ready for Monday to roll around! The weekend went by too fast as always.

Your-ami

Lance was in Miami all last week (Sunday afternoon to late Friday night). Before he left we were telling the kids where he was going. Later, Reese would ask him questions about "Your Ami". She couldn't understand that it wasn't "My Ami". On Sunday night when I put Sam to bed he asked if Lance would be home late and I told him that he was in Miami. He then said, "No, Daddy's Ami!". They were cracking me up!!

While Lance was gone we kept busy and the week flew by. We went to the park every day after naps except for Wednesday. Wednesday the kids played at my grandparents while I went to a funeral nearby their house. They had a blast there and did not want to leave. I think they spent most of their time playing in the big camper...they even had a picnic in there. I am positive my grandparents slept well that night.

Surrounded by girls

This is what happens when you are surrounded by girls all day. Poor Sammy!

Reesey Baby Girl

Each afternoon when Sam and I pick Reese up from school, as she is climbing in the car, Sam says, "Hey Reesey Baby Girl!". Apparently I call her that a lot and he has picked up on it. Too cute!

Daddy/Daughter Date Night

Last night Chick-fil-A held their annual Daddy/Daughter date night. Last year we missed a chance to get reservations so I was sure to do it early this year. Reese and Lance were both so excited to have this special time together. Reese even wore her favorite dress for their date.

2-5-2012 004

Sam and I decided to go shopping and then to Moe’s for dinner. So I guess we had a date night too. Just not as planned and organized. When Sam and I sat down to eat I checked my phone and there was a text from Lance saying, “No Chick-fil-A”.

photo 1

I immediately asked why and apparently the Chick-fil-A cow was inside the restaurant and Reese was having none of that. She just can’t stand anything dressed up. I didn’t even think about them possibly having the cow there.

2-5-2012 009

So instead they went to Mellow Mushroom for pizza and still got to have a date night out.

2-5-2012 002

After we all finished our meals we met up at a yogurt shop for dessert. Everybody seemed to enjoy their night out. I am so thankful that we were all able to do this.

I had a great time with my little man and Lance had a great time with Reese!

Life Changer

Yesterday I went to the most amazing funeral I have ever been to. I know, amazing and funeral don’t usually go in the same sentence but believe me, it was. A friend of mine from college lost her husband in a tragic accident. He was hit by a car while running last Thursday morning and passed away on Friday. He left behind a wife, two young kids, and tons of family and friends. And when I say tons, I mean tons. There were over 1500 people at his funeral…including the Chick-fil-A cow. Their church has a huge field next to it and since it was such a beautiful day and a large crowd was expected they held the service out there. Everyone was asked to wear yellow and to be ready to celebrate. And celebrate they did. There were stories, laughter, songs, tears, and yellow balloons were released at the end. People driving by probably had no idea what was going on.

I want to write this post on my blog so that when there is a day I am questioning things or feeling down, I can come back here to remember this life and this funeral. It was a life changer. Jay was a coach on the soccer field and a P.E. coach at an elementary school. He loved the Lord and this was the most touching part of the funeral. His love of God shined through the whole service. One of my favorite things the pastor said was when he quoted a passage from Job (which Corinne had ironically {or divinely} been studying at the time). Job 1:21 says, “…the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” How hard would it be to feel that in this situation? I can’t imagine. But I hope that if I am ever in a situation even as close to Corinne’s that I am half as strong as she has been this past week. Her faith is keeping her strong and her family and friends will be a great support.

I think every person that walked away from that service has decided to make some kind of change in their life. I know there are parts of mine that will see positive changes in this tragic situation. Jay was able to donate his heart, kidneys, lungs, and pancreas to four different people. Imagine the life change they will experience! Jay’s youth pastor spoke at this funeral and then later posted to his blog the words he spoke. Here is the link to that. And here is a great article written on the Patch about the service.

The service ended with yellow balloons being released and “While I’m Waiting” was playing. It was a sight I hope to never forget! Even though it is hard to believe in a situation like this, God is GOOD all of the time!
