Catch-up

Here are some pictures and stories from throughout the summer up until now…in no particular order.

We met Lance’s friend, Eric, from high school one night for dinner while they were in town.  He has a daughter six months older than Reese and they had a blast together.  They would dance, jump, sing, and just basically act silly together.  It was so cute!

Reese loves mannequins.  She is so interested in them and always wants to touch them.  It cracks me up.  She especially liked the one her size at Old Navy.

One afternoon I couldn’t find Reese and she was hiding in out guest bed.  She had taken all of the pillows out of the way and was under the sheets.

At Chick-fil-a you can turn in your toy from the kids meal for a free ice cream.  Reese decided she wanted to do it all by herself.  She was such a big girl.

This is a bed I really like for our new king size mattress that we recently purchased.

Sam is always sitting up and looking over the crib sides with a big smile on his face after nap times!

Reese wrote her name out all by herself for the first time tonight.  I was so proud of her!!  She of course didn’t want her picture taken but I just had to.

Here it is up close.  Didn’t she do such a great job??  I wrote her name first so that she knew the order to write her letters in.

Now that Sam is crawling around he is getting lots of bumps and bruises.  He currently has a bruise on his left cheek from the corner of our coffee table, a bruise on his forehead from our coffee table, and he got his first bloody nose today from nose-diving on our fireplace.  Poor guy!  But he is a good sport about it.  I remember when Reese did this same thing! I feel so bad for him but he is still just as cute as ever!

Bad Dreams?

Reese has never been a good sleeper!  From very early on she has cried out in her sleep.  Before she could talk she would cry or whine in her sleep.  Once she started talking she calls my name, randomly talks while sleeping, and cries or yells.  Often!

I have never known if she is sleeping or awake when she calls my name.  So I always have to get up and check on her.  Recently I have picked her up out of her bed in hopes of waking her up out of what ever she is dreaming. I also noticed that sometimes she cries out (in her sleep) when she needs to go to the bathroom so I will take her in hopes of being able to get back to sleep.

The last couple of nights she has slept fabulously!  So, of course, this morning I was shocked when she came in my room talking crazy.  She said, “Mommy, I don’t want that man to cut my toes.”  “What?”  “I saaaaaid, “I don’t want that man to cut my toes.”  “Reese-y, I have no idea what you are talking about.” And then I changed the conversation because we could have gone back and forth forever.

I forgot about our conversation as the day went on.  Tonight when I laid her down in her bed she again said, “I don’t want that man to come in my room.”  “What man?”  “That crazy man.”  “Baby, there are no crazy mans in our house.  No crazy mans will come in our house. You are totally safe.”  And she didn’t talk about it again.  It kind of made me sad but I am so glad she told me about it.

Siblings

Sam and Reese have started to entertain each other a bit.  Sam, of course, loves to watch Reese. And Reese loves to get Sam’s attention.  It is fun to watch them together.

I just wish I could get a picture of them together.  Reese has decided that she doesn’t want her picture taken…ever.

Sam just thinks I am crazy with a camera in his face.

8-13-10 005

Reese always wants to be silly and make silly faces.

8-13-10 006

Sam is more interested in the camera.

I loved how they were both in such bright colors and just wanted a cute picture of them together.  Maybe one day!

Nine Months Old

Sam turned nine months old yesterday!

Today I took him for his check up.  And oh my is he still little!  He currently weighs what Reese weighed at her six month check up.  He only weighs 18 pounds, 8 ounces and that is only 18%. This means he only gained one pound since his six month check up.  He is 28 inches long (42%) and his head is 17.5 cm (26%).

I remember Reese’s growth slowing down between her six month and nine month check up because they start moving around so much.  See exhibit below! He was about to lunge off the chair while I was taking his picture.

But it didn’t slow down this much so when I saw his weight it caught me off guard.  The doctor wasn’t fully concerned about it but she said we would definitely keep an eye on it.

Fortunately, we are there every month during their first year due to our revised vaccination schedule so we will be able to keep an eye on his weight each month.  I have done a little research on his lack of weight gain today.  Most sites say not to worry too much about the weight as long as they are meeting all of their milestone marks. And I feel like he is right on track.  So I am going to do my best not to worry too much about his weight and just make sure we are feeding and nursing enough to keep him growing! I also have a call in to a friend who is a lactation consultant to get her opinion on this.

Some of the things Sam is doing right now:

*can sit himself up from laying down
*says “uh-oh” and “bye-bye”
*When some one else says “bye-bye” he waves
*crawls…still hasn’t figured out that he can follow me where ever I go though…if he sees something he wants he goes after it
*sometimes he will just roll all over the floor to what he wants…I think it is faster than crawling still
*claps…especially when he hears some one else clapping
*Will clap with “If you are happy and you know it”
*gives high fives
*”sings” and dances
*is starting to eat more table food…he had his first blueberry muffin last night
*gives hugs
*gives kisses…sloppy open mouth kisses
*plays peek-a-boo
*is so entertained by Reese!
*he has six teeth
*sleeps well…usually an hour or so nap in the morning, a one to two hour nap in the afternoon and sleeps about 11 hours straight at night
*He is soooo sweet and loves to cuddle!!

Lance and I used to joke that our daughters would be his size and our sons would be my size.  Ha!  Get to growing Little Buddy!!

First Day of Preschool

Reese had her first day of preschool today.  She is going three days a week this year.  She was soooo excited about going today.  She picked out her own clothes (and those for tomorrow).

I wanted to get a picture of her this morning but she was just being silly.  These are the best I could do.

This year we go through a different car pool line.  It has 3’s, 4’s, and Kindergarteners in this line so it is so long!  I didn’t realize how awesome it was last year to go so quickly through the babies and 2’s line.  I will definitely need to leave earlier in the afternoons if I don’t want to sit in line for 15 minutes!

Reese had a great day at school!  She told me about so many things in such great detail.  I am so surprised at how much she knows and remembers.

I think Reese is going to really love school this year and learn so much!  I can’t wait to see how it goes!

Singers

You’ve seen Reese sing…now check Sam’s singing talent out!  Ha!  Don’t mind my singing!

I have two little stars!

Come on little buddy!  You are almost there!  You are going to be standing and walking before you are crawling!!

One of my faves

We were out shopping and it was HOT! We got back in the car and turned the air on full blast (that is why my hair is flying around) and it felt so good.

And His First Word Is...

Not Mama
Not Dada
Not Sissy (like Reese always try to get him to say)
But it is "bye-bye".
Too funny!
We all are always trying to get him to say our names. I guess he showed us! I think he is telling us to get out of his face.
