Our Dining Room

For the last six months our dining room has been empty. I wasn’t sure exactly what table I wanted to go in there but I kept my eyes out for anything that I liked. Finally we were out looking one day and saw a table that we liked. We had decided we wanted a round table and then found one that was reclaimed wood and just beautiful. It was pretty big so we went home to measure it out on the floor. It still looked pretty big so we wanted to go look at it again and ask some questions. We finally got back to the store and were told that the man who makes that table can make them smaller too but it would take 5-6 weeks for him to make it. We were ok with that but kept looking around the store. We walked back in to the warehouse part and found the exact table in the size that we wanted. Finally we made the decision to buy it (we are definitely not quick decision makers). We went back and fourth about buying the chairs that were staged with the table and eventually decided against them. That night we went home and found some chairs on Target’s website that we liked! We decided that they would be perfect for our lives right now. With three young kids who are so messy at dinner time, we thought the dark color would be best. And if we didn’t spend a whole lot of money on them, we felt like we may use them more with the kids and we wouldn’t panic every time something was spilled on them. Once they are all older we can update the chairs and the look.

This was our dining room yesterday morning.

At 7:30 am, the delivery truck pulls up with our table!

12-19-13 420

I took Sam to school and then decided that I wanted to paint the dining room.

12-19-13 422

I got all of the trim done with Hayes walking around. I was able to leave the paint up on the counter and out of the way. After picking Sam up from school, I put Hayes down for a nap and he slept for THREE hours. I was able to get the whole room done. That just doesn’t happen in my life. Usually if there is something that I want to get done, Hayes will sleep for 45 minutes.

You can really see the character of the table in the picture below.

12-19-13 423

Later in the afternoon the chairs were delivered and Lance and I put them together once the kids were all in bed. We still have two more that need to be put at the table for a total of eight.

12-19-13 424

One day I will buy a rug, a sideboard/hutch/china cabinet /whatever I decided, and a new chandelier. But for now I am happy we made a decision and that we are happy with that decision. Ha!

Catching up…

Again!

I feel like I am always playing catch up on this blog lately! Life is busy and the last thing I want to do at night is pull out my computer and blog about it. I know I will regret it one day though because we love to look back at old posts. So here are just a few things that have happened lately.

Sam had his adenoids removed and one of his tubes replaced at the beginning of December. Unfortunately the night before I got the stomach bug that had been passed around to each of the kids. It was miserable and way worse than the kids had. I was up until 1:00 that night and then back up at 5:30 to get Sam going. I sucked it up to be with my little man though. I took him down to the hospital and Lance came down after he got Reese on the bus.

12-19-13 395

Once we were home I took a two hour nap and Sam didn’t even act like he had surgery that morning. Ha! Some sweet friends brought over some popsicles and games for Sam. Reese was so sweet with him when she got home.

12-19-13 399

After dinner Sam had a popsicle.

12-19-13 401

And Hayes got his first taste of a popsicle too. He wasn’t sure what to think.

12-19-13 402

One afternoon the kids snuggled up on the couch to watch a movie.

12-19-13 405

We went to our local Santa parade that next weekend. It took me all week to shake the stomach big and finally the day of the parade I was feeling back to mostly normal. The kids had a great time!

12-19-13 426

Even this little buddy enjoyed every bit of it.  It was so cold that day though!!

12-19-13 429

Santa! The kids favorite part.  Real reindeer too!

12-19-13 431

They got to make some cute little snowmen out of socks.

12-19-13 432

Earlier this week we had some sweet friends over from our old church. The kids were so excited to see these sweet girls and loved every minute of having them over. I enjoyed it so much too and loved getting to visit with their mommy.

12-19-13 434

That is just a touch of what has been going on. Hopefully more to come.

Visiting Santa

On Sunday we tried to go see Santa…twice. The line was crazy long so we decided to wait. Today was the day! I took the kids after Reese got home from school. Reese was excited. Sam was excited but nervous. And Hayes didn’t know what hit him. I am sad that this is not the normal Santa that we have seen. I guess every once in a while the Santa’s switch and this is not the one the kids have had their pictures with every year. Oh well! It is still pretty cute!

Thanksgiving Week Recap

Last Monday started the kids week off from school. We had been planning to go to the zoo since we didn’t get to go the last time because Sam got sick. So Monday was the day! Except Reese got sick Sunday night so the zoo was out for us...why do my kids get sick on zoo days?!? Monday morning Reese woke up feeling fine so I kept an eye on her as the day went by. She was fine so she got to go to our surprise for the night. Lance got sneak peek tickets to Frozen for Monday night in Atlantic Station. I took the kids down there to have dinner with Lance and then the three of them headed to see the movie. They all seemed to really enjoy it and Lance said it was really cute. I have heard so many great reviews and now I can’t wait to see it myself.

Tuesday I started getting some Christmas decorations out since it rained the entire day. Wednesday we went to Hobby Lobby two times for more decorations (three times total for the week)! Lance got home early that day and we went to Costco for some last minute things.

Thursday morning we woke up with Reese telling Lance that they needed to go work out. He finally gave in to her and they went to the basement to work out while Hayes and I slept a little more and Sam watched some TV. Finally I got up and started making my food contributions for Thanksgiving. We were all so excited for the parade to start and we all sat down to watch that together. Even our little busy body Hayes sat and watched it for about ten minutes.

12-2-13 054

He is loving Reese right now! If I can’t do something for him, he will go to Reese for help. One day I was making dinner or something and he wanted to be held. I told him I couldn’t hold him right then and so he walked over to Reese and put his arms up.

12-2-13 055

Finally it was time to get ready to head to my parents house. We all had such a great time. My cousin and his family came over. Their daughter is two and a half and my kids adore her. They all played so well together all day. I really enjoyed my time visiting because my kids didn’t need me to entertain them or referee. You can tell the kids were playing hard because of the mess all over the floor.

12-2-13 062

We ended up staying there all day. We were going to leave around 6:00 but realized Hayes would fall asleep as soon as we started the car so we decided to stay until 7:00 so he could do that at bed time instead. And he did. He was asleep before we were out of the neighborhood.

Friday was Lance’s birthday. We spent the day decorating for Christmas. It has become our tradition to do this in our pajamas so our elf showed up a little early this year and gave the kids some Christmas pajamas to wear for the day. They were so excited to see him.

That night we headed out to do a little shopping. Reese and I ran in to Gap and Banana Republic quickly. It was easy and not many people were out. For dinner we went to Ted’s at Lance’s request. We had never been there with the kids and it was a great little place to take them.

12-2-13 009

We came home for cake! Publix had an ice cream cookie cake that we just had to try. It was pretty good.

Happy birthday, Daddy!

Nothing like a Daddy birthday dog pile!

12-2-13 021

Saturday was clean up day because we were having friends over for the GA-GT game. It was the perfect time for a game when you have kids. The game was at 3:30 which meant naps happened and it wasn’t yet bedtime. The kids all played so well together the whole time. We cooked out, watched the game, and then made some s’mores.

I asked the kids for a picture and this is what happens…Sam tackles Hayes and then they all start being silly. Hayes thinks it is hilarious for the big kids to copy what he is doing. Every time they copy him he laughs and will do it over and over again. That is what was happening here.

12-2-13 039

Finally! My pretty girl and handsome boys.

12-2-13 030

Typical man…carrying around the remote on game day.

12-2-13 036

We had such a great day! Tech was so close to pulling off the win. Once it was overtime, the Tech men knew the game was over. They took it well though.

Sunday we went to church and then Lance’s parents came over to bring him his birthday gift. He has been wanting a turkey fryer and that is what he got! He was excited. They ate left overs from the cook out with us for lunch and visited for a little while. Sam and I ran to the grocery store to buy some food for a friend who recently had a baby. I came home, made them dinner, and then Reese and I ran the food over. After visiting for about thirty minutes, I promised Reese we would drive by her BFF’s house since they live in the same neighborhood. They were out of town the whole week of Thanksgiving and Reese was having withdrawals. We drove by as they were unpacking their car. They insisted we come in to visit even after I said no because I knew they were busy. Reese and Hallie were sooooo excited to see each other. They ran off to her room and I didn’t see Reese again for thirty minutes. They had so much to catch up on but we had to head home to get back in to school mode.

Now it is Monday and we are back in our routine. It was a little rough waking up today but over all we made it. Only 14 more days of school before Christmas break!! Wahoo! We had a great Thanksgiving break and I am so thankful!

Sweet Papa and his buddy, Hayes

The day of Reese’s grandparents day at school, Papa and Peggy came over to our house a little early to visit and then so I could show them where to go. At first Hayes wasn’t too sure he wanted to visit with them. He stayed away and was being shy with them. But then all of a sudden he walked up to Papa and started playing. I think it was shortly after Papa “stole his sugar”. He would climb in his lap, giggle at him, play with him and at one point even laid his head down on his shoulder to give him a hug. It was the sweetest thing!

School Thanksgiving

Yesterday Reese had a Grandparents Thanksgiving Feast at her school. She was so excited. Lance’s mom was able to go and my grandparents (her great-grandparents) were able to make it. Unfortunately my parents had work commitments that kept them from being able to have lunch with Reese. She only made them feel a little bad. The room mom from Reese’s class sent a picture to me after the lunch.

Today Sam’s class had a Thanksgiving party. They each dressed like little Indians and had Indian names. I think they each picked an animal to be a part of their names. Sam’s name was Fearless Tiger Sam.

Here is his class saying their blessing before getting to eat.

photo 1

Hayes enjoyed getting to spend time in Sam’s class. He wanted out of the stroller so bad so I eventually let him out.

photo 2

He was so good though. He just stood next to Sam as he ate his lunch. For a little while they even held hands. It was super sweet and that is what they were doing in this picture.

photo 3

Another mom was sweet enough to take a picture of all three of us.

photo 4

So cute!

Now Sam thinks it is time for Christmas because his teacher told him that Christmas is right after Thanksgiving. He doesn’t understand that there is still over a month to go.

I also was able to get the email address of his best buddies mom. He always talks about Caleb and how much they play together. Caleb’s dad was there so I introduced myself and asked for his wife’s contact info so we could get the boys together to play outside of school. Sam was so excited but very disappointed that the playdate was not going to happen today.

Our Weekend

Saturday, I took Reese to the Rockette’s with my mom and sister. It was a nice girls day out. We went to lunch first and then to the 2:00 show. Reese was super excited. The show was nice and we had a nice time with everyone.

11-19-2013 014

My mom took some pictures with her camera (I forgot mine). I took a couple with my cell phone though.

photo 1

I was so tired that day and during the first half I felt like I was going to fall asleep. Not because of the show, just because I was so stinking tired. At the intermission I went to get a Coke and felt like a whole new person in the second half.

photo 2

After church on Sunday, we drove out to Adrienne’s house to visit.

524

The kids had so much fun going down this slide over and over.

527

They put a bean bag at the bottom of the slide and would flip over it. It was so funny to watch.

528

How cute are these boys??

530

531

They tired themselves out nicely. All three of the kids fell asleep on the way home.

534

Let’s not forget about the babies who played so well too!

536

How sweet is that face?

537

And this is a picture from when we were at their house last time for Emme’s birthday. It is too cute not to include.

Thanks for the pictures, A!
